My roommates both have their own auto insurance- why do I need to get their drivers license and DOB for my own auto quote?  We get this question all the time.  Being an Independent agent, we are able to find the most competitive rate with the best coverage for our clients.  However, every carrier wants to know who is living in the household.  Your roommates are not necessarily rated on the policy, but the company wants to be aware of who has easy access to your vehicle.

Picture this:  you and your roommate order a pizza for pick up, and your vehicle is in the back of the driveway. Even though the pizza place is a minute down the road, your roommate, with your permission, jumps in your car to grab the pizza.  They are in an accident.

This is why companies want to know who is living with you.

In that scenario, the roommate had permission and the claim should be covered.  However- if they were not listed on your policy as a household member- the company could in fact deny the claim for failure to disclose you had someone living with you.  We have seen this happen.

Call us today to review your current auto policy and ensure everyone in the household is listed; 716-631-0190.
